2024 Lenten Service Project

For our 2024 Lenten Service Project, we are collecting chocolate bunnies (6 inches) and chocolate Crosses (6 inches) for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Baton Rouge's Build a Basket Effort.

St. Vincent de Paul distributes baskets to the children served at the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room and also to needy children identified throughout the area.  They provide Easter baskets for the children at the shelter, as well as other area shelters. In addition to candy and small toys, each basket also contains a card explaining what Easter is about in a brief story of Jesus’ resurrection. These young boys and girls have so little, and something as simple as an Easter basket can create a wonderful memory that will last a lifetime.

Please consider purchasing chocolate bunnies and chocolate Crosses for this effort. You may bring them to the school office between now and March 8. Thank you for your generosity!

Requirements for Volunteering at STM

St. Thomas More must provide a safe environment for children and youth. We hold ALL adults who work with minors to a code of conduct that is Christ-centered and professional. The Safe Environment Program implemented by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge requires us to evaluate the background of all paid personnel and volunteers whose duties include ongoing, unsupervised contact with minors.

The Diocese of Baton Rouge has adopted Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. Any one who wants to volunteer at St. Thomas More must be in compliance with this policy. ALL requirements must be met in order to volunteer.

The Diocese is still transitioning to a new system for volunteers to apply for Child Protection Certification. In the meantime, you may still follow these steps to become certified to volunteer at STM:

5 Most Dangerous Places for Kids to be Online

Parents can’t control all of the doorways that exist for a child to access the web. Creating a tech-ready home is one thing, but how many other ways exist for your child to watch YouTube without you knowing? While parents can’t control all of the places where their kids spend time, there are a few high-risk environments that warrant more attention. Click here to read the full article from Protect Young Eyes.

STM Talent Show - April 12

The Talent Show is scheduled for Friday, April 12, 2024 at 1 p.m. It is a talent show, not a variety-type show or a competition. The acts must be based on talents such as singing, comedy, dancing, gymnastics, juggling, bands, skits, karate, etc.

The talent show is open to Saint Thomas More students in grades 3-8. Individual student acts or student group acts are all welcome . However, our time and space is limited, so your acts should run 3 minutes or less. We will not put an act in the show that is longer than 3 minutes. Please take into consideration your music choice. We will not put a song in the show with any questionable lyrics. Singers should have music without lyrics.

Interest forms were sent home. If your child is interested in trying out for the talent show, please return the form to your homeroom teacher by Wednesday, March 6. On the afternoon of Thursday, March 20, a special selection
committee of judges will hold tryouts in the gym. Acts should appear ready to be in the show at try-outs. Tryouts for Masters of Ceremony will be March 26.

Once selections are made, letters of congratulations will be sent home to those selected for the talent show.
Those acts selected will need to turn in any musical accompaniment (on USB or email file) to Mrs. Wisdom in
the library. Please be sure your name and grade level are on the USB or in the subject of the email.

One walk-through, dress rehearsal will be held prior to the show on Tuesday, April 9. The exact time
for the rehearsal will be included in the “congrats” letter.
